Scope of Competition

3D design is the foundation of additive manufacturing, translating ideas into detailed digital models for precise fabrication. It enables customization, enhances design flexibility, and drives efficiency by enabling iterative testing and optimization before production.

In the past Design Competitions held in 2022, 2023, and 2024, many students participated and gained valuable awareness about Additive Manufacturing (AM), along with exposure and linkage opportunities with industry. This design competition is an excellent opportunity for students to compete and enhance their understanding of design and gain further exposure to industry practices.

In this competition, students are invited to design a specified part for 3D printing that meets given criteria, optimizing for minimum mass and maximum load capacity. The best CAD designs will be selected for printing at the PIAM3D facility. These 3D printed models will then compete for the top three positions, with winners chosen by a panel of expert judges.
